ARC Window Films install a solar window film to preserve the comfort of shoppers at Wigan’s iconic Grand Arcade shopping centre
The Grand Arcade shopping centre is Wigan’s premier venue for shoppers, offering in excess of 40 stores. The centre opened in 2007, and is built on a site that is believed to have once been an important Roman Settlement. It was also once home to the Wigan Casino Soul club – which was once voted “the world’s best venue” by Americas Billboard Magazine.
The centre utilises overhead glazing to allow natural light to enter, offering a bright atmosphere. It is also designed as passive/ zero carbon, meaning it does not have any heating or cooling systems. Although this helps the centre maintain a low carbon footprint, over the summer months the heat entering through the overhead glazing can lead to uncomfortable temperatures for shoppers.
The centre management are always keen to maintain a positive shopping experience for shoppers, so sought a passive measure to reduce this heat gain.
The centre management contacted award winning local window film specialists ARC Window Films for a solution. Following a site survey and consultation, a high performance external solar window film was installed to the overhead glazing. Although the product rejects over 80% of solar heat and reduces glare by 85%, the view from the inside is unchanged, and natural light still fills the centre.
The centre management are delighted with the result:
“We are extremely happy with the result; the view outside is unchanged but the heat is greatly reduced.”
Thanks to ARC Window Films, the comfort of shoppers to the Grand Arcade is preserved.
